Got questions about ordering your custom roller derby uniform from Frogmouth? Here's an introduction to the whole process, as well as some of the most frequently asked questions.

HOW DOES THIS WORK?

We’ve tried to simplify the uniform process for teams as much as possible because we’ve been there.  We’ve been the captain of the team who is in charge of practice agendas and uniform ordering, and we know it’s a LOT.  Here’s an overview of how it works:

Fill out the form here
to let us know about your team and uniform needs. You’ll have a chance to upload your artwork straight to the form so we can get started.  You’ll also have a chance to let us know more about your team’s priorities and describe any design ideas you already have in mind.

One of our Customer Happiness representatives will contact you to discuss additional details and confirm your timeline so we can reserve production time for your team.  They’ll also talk about whether your team needs size samples and walk you through that process.

We get to work on your design based on the ideas and graphics you provided, and our designers will work up three initial options for you to review.  Based on your feedback, we’ll revise or combine elements from those designs or add new elements until we have a design that you love and will be proud to wear.

Once your designs are finalized, we’ll create a webstore for your team here at frogmouthclothing.com that includes your jerseys and a full range of matching accessories.  We’ll send you the link, which you can then send to your team so skaters can order for themselves! Everyone will have until a specific deadline to get their order in so it can be produced during the production slot we reserved for your team in Step 1.

We get to work making the uniforms you’ve ordered, then we ship straight to skaters.  If they have any fit or other issues, they come directly to us without team leadership needing to be involved and we’ll fix their issue. In special cases, we can also offer bulk shipments for teams that works better for.

Your webstore is accessible to you and your skaters anytime once it launches, which means it’s easy to get extra helmet covers or get a team scrimmage top later if you want or need to. And when you add skaters to your roster--whether it’s mid-season or next season--all you have to do is send them the link to your webstore and they can order for themselves. If they have questions about sizes and styles, they can ask us directly.

You crush it in your new uniforms and tag #frogmouthclothing on social media so we can see how awesome you are!

There are no set-up fees, no minimum orders, and no obligations, and if anyone doesn't love what they get, we will see if we can to make it right, including offering free replacements or full refunds where appropriate and reasonable. It takes about five minutes to start creating your own amazing custom roller derby uniform here. Got questions? There is no minimum order requirement for your team. If your team decides to borrow a sample sizer set of jerseys, you’ll put down a deposit for it that we refund once the sizers are successfully returned (sizers are due back 30 days after you receive them).

WHAT STYLE OF JERSEY IS IT? velcro repellent nanoweave roller derby uniform fabric by Frogmouth | What is the best fabric for roller derby uniforms | how do you stop roller derby uniforms from pilling | what is the best fabric for jersey whips in roller derby

WHAT ARE THE JERSEYS MADE OF? All our uniforms are made of Nanoweave™, which is our own custom blend of polyester and Spandex (also known as "Lycra" or "Elastane," depending on where you are from). We developed Nanoweave especially for roller derby: it allows jammers to take jersey whips across almost the whole width of the track without pulling their blocker out of position, and uses much smaller fibers than other stretch fabrics, and has a much finer weave, which means velcro hooks cannot attach to it. This prevents Nanoweave from sticking to the velcro on elbow pads, wrist guards, and knee pads, and eliminates almost all the pilling that is common on other roller derby uniforms. We had a microscopic photographer at the University of Texas help us show what really happens when velcro comes in contact with our fabric and a competitor's fabric. The photo shows the tight weave of our jersey fabric (blue) when it comes into contact with the hooks of velcro (white) and the inability of the hooks to penetrate the weave. The larger weave of a competitor's fabric (red) allows the hooks to grab fibers and pull them loose, making it easier for the velcro to grab the loosened fibers next time. This is how pilling happens, and Nanoweave doesn't pill. Nanoweave also looks and feels great, is antimicrobial to reduce stank, and features wicking to help you stay dry. Nanoweave is only available from Frogmouth.

ARE THESE "SUBLIMATED" UNIFORMS? HOW DO YOU MAKE THEM? Almost everything we make is dyed using a process called "dye-sublimation," sometimes known as "sublimation," which means we print your jersey design onto heat-resistant transfer paper using a special large-format inkjet printer and dyes designed for textiles, then use an industrial heat press to transfer the dye into white fabric. The ink diffuses into the polyester threads in the fabric, where it stays permanently. This gives a deep, vibrant color that won't wash out, peel off, or bleed. The only colors on our uniforms that aren't dyed using dye sublimation are white and the large solid black areas on our pants which are dyed by our fabric manufacturer. Once we have dyed the fabric, we cut and sew it to make your uniform. Our fabric is made especially for us, to our specifications. We do everything else ourselves, from design through manufacture, in Austin, Texas.

CAN YOU ADD A PATCH TO THE JERSEY? Yes, there are several ways to add a WFTDA patch to the jersey. If you want to add it yourself, we recommend sewing rather than ironing, as the heat from an iron may affect the dyes in the fabric. If you want, we can add faint guidelines to your uniform so every skater sews their patch in the same place. Just let us know you would like guidelines when you place your uniform builder order, or during the design process. Alternatively, we can add your WFTDA patches for you, for an additional $5 per garment. This may be more convenient, and all your patches will be sewn on professionally. You must be a WFTDA-member to have patches added, and you must supply the patches to us. This is an especially good option for international leagues: you can order your patches directly from WFTDA, use our address as the shipping address, and eliminate international shipping costs, and eliminate taxes and import duties for the patches, as they will enter your country affixed to your jerseys. We cannot dye a WFTDA patch onto your jersey as a WFTDA doesn't allow that yet. If your league is a member of MRDA or JRDA, we can dye those patches on for you.

DO YOU ADD NUMBERS AND NAMES? IS THAT INCLUDED IN THE PRICE? Yes, names and numbers are included as part of the price of each jersey, skaters just enter their information when they order.

ARE THE NUMBERS WFTDA-COMPLIANT? Yes, by default we design all aspects of your team’s uniforms to be compliant with the most recent WFTDA regulations. If you play by a different ruleset, such as RDCL, we’ll make sure your uniforms comply with those requirements.

CAN I ADD MY TEAM, LEAGUE, OR SPONSOR'S LOGO TO MY JERSEY? Yes, just let us know all about the logos you want when you complete the form.

DO YOU MAKE MEN'S ROLLER DERBY UNIFORMS? Yes, we make jerseys for anyone of any gender.

I NEED TO CREATE SOMETHING COMPLICATED. CAN YOU HELP?  Need to recreate an existing uniform, or have an especially complex design in mind? No problem. Just fill out the form and we'll figure it out with you. Pretty much the only things we cannot do are real glitter, and colors that glow in the dark.

WHAT SIZES DO YOU MAKE? All our products are available from 3XS to 6XL, and jerseys come in 4 lengths: Petite, Regular, Long, and crop top. We also offer two cuts: curve cut (which has side seams that come in at the waist) and straight cut (which is straight from the armpit to hem). Each skater on your team can pick the size and cut that works best for them, and all sizes and cuts are the same price. You can see our size guide here.

CAN WE GET SAMPLE SIZES TO TRY ON AND RETURN? Yes, you can order these straight from the form. (We don't supply size samples unless you have ordered a design.) There is a $30 deposit for each size sample, which we refund in full when they are returned within 30 days. They are high neck, full back, regular length tanks, marked to show where the low neck, skaterback, and short length options as well. Both curve and straight cut size samples are available. Size samples also help you get the right size even If you are ordering a skater tee, extra long, or skate dress.

ONCE I HAVE DESIGNED MY JERSEY, HOW DOES MY TEAM ORDER?  Your skaters will order individually--each skater can go to the special web page we’ll create for your team’s uniform collection and order their jersey, as well as any accessories they want, like shorts or armbands. This way you don’t have to collect sizes and money and subsequently keep up with all the logistics of ordering, receiving, and distributing uniforms to individuals, as well as helping skaters with issues get them resolved. Skaters just go to the webstore, we ship to their door, and then we fix it if they have a problem. You can see an example of a real team's web store here.

If your team has a special case and wants bulk shipping or needs the league to be able to partially or fully subsidize the costs of skaters’ jerseys we can manage those logistics, as well. Just let us know.

WHAT ABOUT SKATERS WHO JOIN OUR ROSTER MID-SEASON? Any skater can order any uniform item at anytime using your webstore. Order more jerseys or accessories whenever you want.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR OUR JERSEYS TO ARRIVE? It depends, but typically getting to an approved design can take as little as a few weeks or up to 8 weeks, with a lot of factors that can impact the timeline.  During January, February, March, April, and May, our production capacity gets filled especially quickly, so if you need uniforms during those months, let us know as early before your needed date as possible.

Examples of things that can make the process take longer include if you need precise color matching to a physical sample of previous jerseys, don’t have access to a vector or high resolution version of your team logo, or need extra time to have a team or league vote or other approval process.  If you want to make sure the process is as fast as possible, here are some helpful hints:

    • Let us know exactly what your vision is for your jerseys if you have one; marker sketches, stick figures, and examples of other team jerseys you like all work great to help us get to know you.  If you don’t have an idea, let us know that, too, and pair it with a little synopsis of what your team is like so our designers can try to make something that goes with your team’s personality.

HOW DO YOU SHIP? DO YOU SHIP WORLDWIDE? Yes! We ship everywhere! We ship by USPS Priority Mail in the US, and offer fast, low cost UPS shipping to the rest of the world, with taxes and duty prepaid (so your order goes straight to your door and doesn't get stuck in customs or incur extra charges).

WHAT ARE YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE POLICIES? If you don't love a Frogmouth product,  just let us know within 30 days and we'll do what we can to fix it. No catches, no bullshit.

ARE YOU DERBY OWNED AND OPERATED? Yes, our founder and CEO is Laura Rigby, who skated as Elle B. Bach with Texas Rollergirls, and before that, with Texas Roller Derby. Our team includes skaters and former skaters who have played competitive roller derby in both adult and junior leagues. Because we do everything from design to dyeing, cutting, and sewing ourselves, Frogmouth products are not just made by a derby-owned company: they are made by skaters, all of whom are women, and all of whom are part owners of the company.

THIS ALL SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. WHAT'S THE CATCH? There really isn't one. We specialize in roller derby, buy our fabric in bulk, and do our designing, dyeing, cutting, and sewing ourselves in Austin, Texas. That means we can make your product to order without waiting for intermediaries, and without distractions from other sports or businesses.
